About UsThe Virginia Electronic Commerce Technology Center (VECTEC) is a non-profit university based organization located at Christopher Newport University.Our MissionTo promote economic competitiveness and development by sponsoring, developing and implementing electronic commerce activities and programs to include rural areas throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. VECTEC places special emphasis on delivering e-commerce technologies and services to Virginia's small and medium size businesses. Our CenterThe main office is located on the 3rd floor of the CNU Business and Technology Center on the corner of Warwick Boulevard and Hiden Boulevard in Newport News, Virginia. The VECTEC regional office in Lebanon, Virginia is located at 131-B East Main Street. The Southwest Virginia office includes satellite offices for the Southwest Virginia Technology Council (SWVTC). The office was officially established in April 2002 through the generosity of the Russell County Board of Supervisors. The Southwest Virginia office and its e-commerce programs are supported by various grants. The VECTEC regional office in South Boston, Virginia is located at The Southern Virginia Higher Education Center at 820 Bruce Street. The office was officially established in 2006 through the generosity of the Virginia Tobacco Commission. Our StaffVECTEC is under the direction of William N. Muir and the VECTEC Advisory Board, chaired by Mr. Leroy Newman. Our staff includes technical experts in design, database development, security and marketing. State-Wide InvolvementWe are actively working with more than 150 companies, local governments and regional agencies throughout the Commonwealth. Some of our star companies include The Smithfield Companies in Smithfield, Bennette Paint Manufacturing in Hampton, The Diabetes Institutes Foundation in Norfolk, Cherry Auto in Suffolk and Abbitt Realty in Newport News. Community AssistanceVECTEC provides support to various nonprofit groups including the Hampton Roads and Eastern Shore Chapters of the American Red Cross, The Tidewater Association for Hearing Impaired Children, Peninsula Food Bank and the Eastern Shore Literacy Council. We have also been involved with several community health initiatives including HealthConnector.org, a portal that allows users to find doctors on the Peninsula as well as the Virginia Peninsula Pysicians portal that is helping to attract healthcare specialists to this area. Funding SupportVECTEC receives funding support from several sources including the Commonwealth of Virginia, federal grants, corporate partners, local government partners and through project and client fees.
